abstract = {In this experiment carried out in a driving simulator, we studied the influence of the use of stereoscopy, head motion parallax and their combined effect on speed perception. In a speed production experimentationdrivers had to produce several target speeds ranging from 30 to 130 km/h. Subjects were divided in two groups, one group drove in an urban environment, and produced 3 low speeds (30, 50 and 70 km/h), and the other group drove in a highway environment and produced 3 high speeds (90, 110 and 130 km/h). Results show that for the high speeds group, when stereoscopy and head tracking are used, subjects produced significatively higher speeds, indicating a significant impact of these 2 factors on speed perception. However, no significant influence of the individual or simultaneous use of stereoscopy, head tracking on speed perception was found for the low speeds group. Both groups produced speeds higher than the targets, especially the high speeds group. We also observed that visual comfort is rated significantly lower in configurations with head tracking only than with any other combination of stereoscopy and head tracking.},
