abstract = {This paper presents a multimodal comparison between real-life and simulated cycling using behavioral, physiological, and subjective measures, including riding dynamics, heart rate, gaze behavior, and perceived workload. A total of 32 participants were included in the study, aged between 18 and 73 years. They performed cycling tasks in both a real-life environment and in a digital replica of it. The simulator aims to preserve natural balance and steering dynamics additionally aided by allowing riders to use their own bicycles. Cycling dynamics can be quantified through measurements of speed, cadence, and longitudinal acceleration, as well as kinematics related to rider and bicycle motion. Participants attended a structured debriefing (interview) and completed the post-experiment questionnaire about their simulator and real-life experiences. Eye tracking was investigated in a controlled indoor environment using a hallway/corridor scenario designed to allow direct comparison between the simulator and cycling in real life. The results show that the simulator seems realistic enough for many research purposes and its design provides opportunities to safely test previously unexplored aspects of cycling.},
